What have I been up to since August? 

Three of my artworks are now displaying at my favourite local cafe, By Blackbird as part of the 2014 SALA Festival.

I was pondering over the act of withdrawal and restraint. Feelings and words that people wish to control and refuse to let out. They build, grow, and manifest inside us. They become our greatest burden.

Tools: Indian ink, Palomino Pearl pencil, Iroshizuku ink, and Lamy Safari fountain pens.

If you are in Adelaide, do go and check out the cafe, this is the place where I can sit for hours doodling in my sketchbook with a cup of coffee or tea and freshly baked pastries. The owners are the kindest and most entertaining people you'll ever meet. More photos to tempt you:

I was given the chance to visit Hong Kong this year to attend FILMART and the Hong Kong International Film Festival . For 2 weeks, I would find myself turning the corner from a bustling mall and walking onto the streets of an old, dilapidated neighbourhood.

I couldn't hold myself back from trying to capture this strange place in the pages of my sketchbook every night.

Cover work encompass the projects that i've enjoyed of most during my time at University. The editors wanted who I was to be expressed in these pieces; and I was given creative license to make them whatever I wanted. These pieces were my style, my emotions, my voice.

Doodles and Travels: Kyoto 2014

Taking a quick break from my digital work, here is a collection from my sketchbook:

My first visit to Japan

It was only this year that I stepped back into trying traditional mediums. I have not been able to stop since, and may even admit that I enjoy working with pen and paper more than a tablet and computer. 

So now I am filling up my sketchbook with doodles from my travels and daily life. I need a lot more practice but I love how much more character a pencil and some ink can give to my work. 

I'll pin up more photos from my Japan trip below. Enjoy!

THE CRANE WIFE 013

I had the pleasure of working on an Honours film production in my first year at university. These three posters were my favourite out of the work I did as a concept artist. It was fun to try something slightly dark and twisted for a change..

Here's a sneak peak of my work process from The Crane Wife image.

I start brainstorming ideas for the poster by sketching quick thumbnails. My only focus is the silhouette and composition of the subject and the overall layout. Yes they're ugly but I'll let you see them anyway...

After that I jump straight into the painting. Here is a work in progress example:

First Release: Personal Collection (2013)

With the closing of my giveaway comes the opening of my gallery.

These are five of my favourite pieces completed from last year to early this year. As the name suggests, they are personal. I did not plan, I had no aim; I just needed a place to vent and my canvas let me.
